A Space For Art And Culture

Te Atamira Opens

Setting up home at Remarkables Park Town Centre is Queenstown’s community arts and culture facility Te Atamira. Meaning stage or platform in Te Reo Māori, the aptly named Te Atamira provides a space for the arts community to come together and champion creative opportunity.

We have a vibrant, diverse, and creative community here in the Queenstown Lakes District, one that has been fragmented by limited fit for purpose space and a steadily changing community landscape. The need for a facility that provides the platform to bring together creative groups to to create and collaborate has been long desired. So it is with pure excitement, and a dose of pride, that Remarkables Park plays host and home to the incredible creative hub that is Te Atamira.

Spread across two tenancies in Dart House, the lower area of Remarkables Park, Te Atamira will ultimately provide 21 spaces for creativity. This includes two dance studios, six different visual art studios, multiple performance spaces, a recording studio and six itinerant music rooms, a dedicated pottery studio, plus a curated gallery, classrooms, workshop, and meeting spaces.

Here at Remarkables Park, while we are widely known and visited for our retail offering, we see ourselves as a bastion of the community – a place where Queenstowners come to shop, dine, work and play – for over 20 years now. It’s with this raison d’etre we see the opening of Te Atamira as the perfect addition to our town centre.

While it’s still bare bones, Te Atamira’s doors are open, and we have already seen some of its dynamic programmes take hold. So far, the October school holidays played host to a variety of mixed media art workshops for kids, all run by local creators. Dance groups including Latin Soul Dance and Remarks Dance Crew have set up shop in the studios and classical pianist Kinga Krupa has hosted a morning tea taking guests on a journey through musical time with her ‘History of Music in a Nutshell’ workshop.

And there is going to be much, much more in the makings. We encourage you to head down to check out Te Atamira, sign up for upcoming workshops and events, and share in the vision of what will be Queenstown’s creative community centre for years to come.
